Green Ideas

Building more sustainably is very important to us at CNChambliss Architecture. Contrary to general belief, it can be affordable and can be incorporated in building projects of any size. Consider these lower-cost possibilities:

o   Build smaller and smarter: Think about the activities and lifestyle that you want to support with your project, not just the rooms that might house them and typical square footages. Is there a way to accomplish your lifestyle goals in less space and using less construction?

o   Adding extra insulation in the ceiling and building walls thicker to accommodate extra insulation.

o   Orienting a house or addition so that the long side of the building is facing south doesn’t necessarily cost any extra money. It also can help reduce energy consumption by allowing more natural light and warmth into your space as well as set you up for adding roof-mounted solar panels.

o   Using water-saving plumbing fixtures and energy-saving appliances costs a little more up front, but saves you money on utility bills in the long run.
